Sims 4 Paranormal Investigator Career: Everything You Need to Know
Fancy yourself a paranormal investigator? It might not be a legitimate job for most of us, but the Sims 4 Paranormal Investigator career can be a ton of fun for those of us that have the Paranormal Stuff Pack.
If you want to fight off ghosts and help the sim community sleep better at night, this is for you. It’s an active freelance track that gets your sims out on the town getting rid of ghosts.
You’ll need to have a high Medium Skill to make it in this career, but it’s the perfect side hustle to pair with other great Sims 4 adventures like running a ranch or writing the next great Simerican novel.
If you’re curious about the Sims 4 Paranormal Investigator Career, this is the blog post for you. Let’s dig in:
Sims 4 Paranormal Investigator Career
The Sims 4 Paranormal Investigator career is a freelance stream that comes with the ghostly stuff pack. It sees sims with advanced Medium skills head out on the job to tackle spirits and banish them from people’s properties.
It’s a great interactive freelance career, you get a chance to head out on the job with your sims and need to perform tasks to get rid of the spirits. To be clear, you NEED to have the Sims 4 Paranormal Stuff Pack to take advantage of the Paranormal Investigator freelance career, it is NOT a base game career.
This is a pack I personally recommend adding to your collecting if you like a little ghostly action. In traditional “stuff pack” style, it offers CAS, Build/Buy AND gameplay additions. You get a Seance Table, some super cute furniture and CAS items that add a little more funk to your game.
How to Become a Paranormal Investigator in the Sims 4

1. Build Your Medium Skill
To become a Paranormal Investigator, you’ll need to max out your Medium Skill. This is a skill that you get exclusively with the Paranormal Stuff Pack – so you’ll need to download it first.
The Medium Skill gets developed by interacting with the new Seance Table. You can summon ghosts, check out the spirituality levels in your house and perform ceremonies.
Interacting with the seance table, especially on a haunted house lot, will help you change the ghost interaction levels on the lot. I find that the more you use it, the happier the ghosts tend to be.
Decorate your spooky house with some gothic style.

2. Get the Paranormal Investigator Licence
You can get the Paranormal Investigator Licence from Guidry the Ghost, once you’ve maxed out your skill level. You only need to summon and ask him about it.
If you don’t want to wait and you have a stock of aspiration points, you can buy it through the Rewards store. It’ll cost you 3,000 Aspiration Points, to do it that way.
However, it’s worth noting that you’ll probably have trouble completing the jobs if your skill isn’t fully developed – especially if you’re aiming for the harder ones.

3. Register as a Freelance Paranormal Investigator
You cannot register as a freelance investigator without the Paranormal Investigator Licence – trust me, I tried. You’ll need to earn it before you can choose the Paranormal Investigator freelance speciality.
You sign up for this career the EXACT same way you sign up for all other freelancing careers. Head to your computer, phone or career panel, register as a freelancer and pick a specialty.

4. Take Jobs
It’s worth noting that the Paranormal Investigator freelance career is NOT going to be the best pick for ambitious sims as there’s no job advancement. This is a single-level career that gives you three different job options:
- Easy: §750 per successfully completed job
- Medium: §1,500 per successfully completed job
- Fast: §3,000 per successfully completed job
Jobs are essentially pass-fail, you either get the job done before the clock runs out and gets paid or you don’t. It’s a pretty simple career, and for gameplay style your sim will probably need a side hustle or other regular hobbies because it gets repetitive quickly.
Add some cottage vibes to your haunted house.

What Do You Do On The Job?
Regardless of what difficulty you choose for the job, the task is straightforward – rid the property of spirits before the clock runs out. This essential encompasses 3 actions:
- Get rid of spirit-filled objects
- Remove ghosts from the property (by asking them to leave or providing them with an offering to entice them to leave)
- Create a seance circle and perform actions with it
To be completely honest, both the Easy and Medium-level jobs are pretty easy. You’re dealing with mostly compliant ghosts that are easy to get rid of. The Hard-level jobs often feature angry ghosts that sometimes won’t give you the time of day. They’re worth double what the Medium jobs are, but they’re harder to complete.
One thing that took me a minute to figure out is that you have to knock on the door of the house to be let inside. I did my first two jobs assuming everything was done outside – that’s simply not the case. Knock on the door so you can help the family get rid of the ghosts.

Sims 4 Paranormal Investigator Career Tips
I’m not going to lie, the Paranormal Investigator freelance career is a pretty easy one to go after, and there’s not a ton of challenge to it. However there are a few things that could make your experience easier, including:
- Max out your Medium Skill before you start taking jobs – you’ll need to do this anyway if you want Guidry to grant you the licence
- Set up sacred candles if you’re going to be working on a haunted lot – you can buy this from the Rewards Store or get the ingredients from a spirit and make them on your own

Is the Paranormal Investigator Career Worth Playing?
The Paranormal Investigator Career gives you another freelance opportunity for your sims. I like this career because it’s a “do at your pleasure” career and the pay isn’t totally horrible. Your sim could easily sustain a comfortable lifestyle on it if you took a few gigs per week. But let’s dig into the actual pros and cons:
Paranormal Investigator Career Pros
I like the Paranormal Investigator career simply because of my interest in ghosts (seriously, I have a spooky podcast and everything!). I think it brings an element to your gameplay that’s fun without going over the top – honestly, I’m not a big fan of the fantasy-style packs but the Paranormal Stuff Pack is BY FAR my favorite.
Paranormal Investigator Career Cons
The biggest drawback that I see with the Paranormal Investigator Career is that it’s not really that replayable. The same thing tends to happen over and over again, and even with the different difficulty levels it can get repetitive fast.
That said, I find this career to be a great mix with another side hustle type job. While you can only be registered with one freelance job at a time, I tend to do this alongside a video influencer career (courtesy of the More Views Video Station) – this allows me to build both careers and add a little variety to the game. Other great complimentary money-makers could be:
- Writing (as a novelist, not a freelancer)
- Skill-building careers like woodworking or flower arranging
- Influencer-style careers
- Gardening or homestead-style lifestyles
I think your gameplay will get boring if it’s the ONLY thing you’re doing. But if you mix it with a robust family life, friends group or hobbies, it can be a great addition to your game.
The other thing that kind of annoys me is that your sims are ALWAYS scared of ghosts, and it can be really hard to get over those fears. I play with UI Extension, so I admit that I get super annoyed and

Final Thoughts: The Sims 4 Paranormal Investigator Freelance Career
The Sims 4 Paranormal Investigator freelance career was entertaining and engaging.
It gives your sims an opportunity to work for themselves and head out of the house, but it shouldn’t interfere too much if you’re working with a loner sim. But the gigs take place at night, so it might interfere with hanging out with your friends.
While it’s not the most repeatable career (the gigs are very similar every time), I found it engaging to play. I worked at it alongside building a social media career for my sim, and the two in-tandem put a decent amount of money into the coffers without having to work a traditional job.
However, this is NOT going to be the career for ambitious sims as there’s no way to move up in it. It’s a single-level freelance career that gives you the same 3 choices for gigs every time you look.
All-in-all I’d recommend playing it, but it does depend on how you feel about the Paranormal Pack – it’s not going to be the best pick for everyone.
